eBay and Sun tries hand in open source movment!!

"GlassFish is a window and entry point into Sun's development process where community members can review source code, submit improvements, and join in technical discussions," Sun said on the Web site. "GlassFish is a renewed partnership between Sun and the larger enterprise Java community."

..eBay has launched an open source developer website to encourage the creation of new applications for its auction site and PayPal online payment service.

The open source movement has great promise

Other sectors remain largely oblivious to the potential impact of open-source models. A few businesses have learnt how to involve consumers in designing new products, and Amazon has benefited from opening up product reviews to its customers. But most businesses would be aghast at the risks of involving a wider range of people from outside the organisation in shaping their key decisions. Although governments have become more open about information and performance data, the use of open-source methods to improve legislation and policymaking remains in its infancy.
